where DyOK Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo was based may be the break that the Philippine
Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has been looking for in the war against drug
trafficking.
The Odicta group is in the watch list of suspected illegal drug personalities,
according Regional Director Paul Ledesma.
In a press conference yesterday, Ledesma said he believed that the attempt of a group
of men to barge into Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo was related to the radio stations crusade
against illegal drugs.
I dont think we should even beat around the bush, said Ledesma, adding that
PDEAs partnership with the radio station in the campaign against illegal drugs has
been commendable.
The intelligence section chief of the Iloilo City Police Office, Senior Inspector Donnel
Regis, identified one of the men in the security camera recordings of Aksyon RadyoIloilo as businessman Melvin Boyet Odicta.
But even if Odicta is in the PDEA watch list, Ledesma admitted that filing charges
against him is another matter.
They have not seen him personally selling or doing business with illegal drugs, said
Ledesma. He described such scenario as near impossible.
It was reported by this paper yesterday that Odicta had been sentenced to life
imprisonment for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 6425) and that
the Supreme Court affirmed the judgment (G.R. No. 93708) on May 15, 1991.
It is not known whether Odicta had obtained presidential pardon leading to his release
from jail; or he had been unlawfully spirited out. The Regional Trial Court here vowed
to dig into their archives.
Ledesma urged Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo to make use of its security camera recordings to
pursue charges against the men who stormed Carlos Uy Building.
This may be a predicate crime that we all have been waiting for, he said, adding that
Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo must identify the men in its security camera recordings.
Let us put this into writing. Let us sign it. Let us give it to the police. Bantayan ta
kun ano ang obrahon sang police, said Ledesma.
Another personality in the recordings identified by Councilor Plaridel Nava was
Councilman Jesus Jing-jing Espinosa Jr. of Barangay Monica, City Proper.
Kagawad Jing, for whatever reason why he was there, it is for him to explain because
the way we understand it, there was a social gathering where they came from, said
Ledesma.
Senior Superintendent Khasmir Disomangcop, city police director, said yesterday they
have identified some of the men in the security camera recordings but declined to give
details.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he requested the national and regional
offices of the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police to
conduct in-depth investigations on the following:
* shooting incidents involving loose firearms
* alleged presence of armed groups
* illegal drug trade.
In his letter, Mabilog stated, I strongly condemn such act of disregarding the rule of
law in the city. I denounce any act to undermine the freedom of the press or threaten
such freedom in any way.
I made my intention clear that I want the identification and neutralization of any
groups involved in illegal activities in the city. The city leadership is committed to
support and provide necessary resources to achieve this purpose the soonest time

The Philippine Information Agency will recognize this years best performing school paper advisers in
Western Visayas.
Four school paper advisers from Capiz will be cited as among the regions best during the gathering of
about 400 student writers for the College Press Conference and Awards on November 26,
Included in the awardees are Mrs. Mary Gretchel Montorio of Jagnaya National High School in Jagnaya,
Jamindan town, Mr. Joey Balatayo of Capiz State University-Roxas City main campus, Mr. Leonardo
Bayadog of Ang Kasanag and Ms. Shanika Mae Isagan of The Script, both of Capiz National High
School.
Montorio and Balatayo will also be recipients of the Hall of Fame award for having consistently won the
award for three consecutive years, that is, from 2013 to 2015.
The Ang Kasanag will also be cited as Best High school Newsletter for 2015 and First Place and
Second Place for Best Multi-Lingual High School Paper.
The annual search for best performing advisers is our way of appreciating and recognizing the efforts of
the school paper advisers in promoting development and responsible campus journalism, said Western
Vissayas PIA Director lawyer Ma. Janet Mesa.
She said that the greater force behind the performance of school paper publications are the advisers, who
in many ways, have been instrumental in the growth of the paper through all the years, despite changing
times and memberships and all other financial and administrative constrains.
The awarding ceremony here which will be led by Director Mesa will likewise be graced by Capiz First
District Congressman Antonio A. Del Rosario, who will be the guest of honor and speaker.
During the opening ceremonies, Mayor Angel Celino will welcome the participants and give the keynote
