Technological advancement and drastic changes has been
noticed during the 20th century. As an influence, Arts do get away
with the traditional style instead, it creates a more expressive and
innovative styles in arts.

What is it?
Modern art movement features different Art Styles introduced
by the Foreign and Local Modernists. Each Art Style has its own
distinct characteristics as the Elements of Arts and Principles of
Design is being applied. They are as follows:
Impressionism
Often use short broken strokes. Subjects were everyday scenes.
Artists of this movement found that they could best capture scenes
with natural light.
Expressionism
Artworks with more emotional forces rather than realistic or natural
images. They use distorted outlines, applying strong colors and
exaggerated forms.

Fauvism
It is a style that used bold, vibrant colors and visual distortions.
Surrealism
A style depicted an illogical, subconscious dream world that seemed
to exist beyond the logical, conscious, physical one.

Modern Arts
Traditional Art Styles are far from the Modern Art Styles. Aside
from being innovative and expressive artworks, paintings during this
era also calls for the social issues that opens the mind of the society

What is it?
Abstractionism
A style apart from the reality. Abstractionism is logical and rational.
It involves analyzing, detaching, selecting and simplifying.
Cubism
Characterized by overlapping planes. Subjects were reduced into
geometric forms and broken in to series of planes tilting and
interlocking in different ways.

Pop Art
Style that uses easily recognizable objects and images from the
emerging consumer society. Subjects are usually celebrities,
advertisements, billboards and comic strips.
Op Art
In Op Art, lines, spaces and colors were precisely planned and
positioned to give the illusion of movement.

movement’s fascination with dreamlike
states. The unfolding forehead of Gala
who is the wife of the members of
Surrealist Movement who are Paul
Eluard (poet) and Salvador Dali
(painter). Marx Ernst, Paul Eluard and
Salvador Dali was represented by the
three circles rising above the clouds
which shows Gala’s an imagined
embodiment of Surrealism’s wide-eyed
interest in art’s power. This displays the

Art Production
Art Production refers to making of something out of an artistic
idea or expression using skills in arts. It can also be a process of
making an idea comes to life. Production is at the heart of making
art.

Modern Art is characterized by the artist's intent to portray a
subject as it exists in the world, according to his or her unique
perspective and is symbolized by a rejection of accepted or traditional
styles and values.

Activity 9 – OP HEART
Op Art is a combination of elements of arts applied together with
the principles of design to create an illusion that lures our sense of
sight.

VALUE refers to the visible lightness or darkness of the color.
MOVEMENT heightens the feeling of motion.

VALUE also gives depth to the subject
CURVE LINE creates an emboss illusion to the subject.

A. Materials needed:
1. ¼ of the Short bond paper or Oslo Paper
2. Pencil with eraser
3. Sign Pen or Gel Pen (Black)
4. Ruler
B. Activity Procedure:
1. Prepare all the materials needed for the activity.
2. Cut the ¼ portion of the Short bond paper or Oslo Paper.
3. Draw a heart shape on your paper using the pencil.
4. Draw horizontal lines across the paper with 1cm spacing. Do
not draw lines inside the heart shape.
5. Add value on the inner sides of the heart. Make a lighter shade
on the left side of the subject. This gives an illusion of depth to
the subject.
6. Make the outline of the subject clear using the sign pen. Then
draw curve lines inside the heart connecting the pre-drawn
horizontal lines.
7. Finish your work by making the horizontal lines clear by using
the sign pen and ruler.

ACTIVITY 10 – FACEMBLAGE
An Assemblage is a Three-Dimensional element projecting an
image using found objects. Somewhat similar to collage but you
have to assemble discarded materials as your medium.
A. Materials needed:
1. Found objects at home
(recyclable or scrap materials)
2. Short bond paper or Oslo Paper
3. Scissors or cutter
4. Glue or Glue Gun
B. Procedure
1. Prepare all the materials needed for the activity.
2. Look for recyclable materials at home like old spoon, bottle
caps, broken pens, and the like.
3. Draw an outline of your face on the bond paper.
4. Put together all the recyclable materials to give life to your
portrait using the glue or glue gun.
5. After you finish your work. Have it photographed using your
cellphone.
6. Ask one of your classmates to give their impression on your
Facemblage. Print screen their comment/s.
